Our Mission

Second Chance Rescue is a non-profit organization formed to promote the rescue, foster, and placement of homeless companion animals into permanent, loving homes.

At this time, we rescue primarily from local animal shelters in the Dayton, Ohio and surrounding areas. We pull dogs, puppies, cats and kittens that we feel have tremendous adoption potential, but that won't make it up for general adoption at the shelter for any number of reasons, including space, age, and medical issues.

We are committed to each and every animal taken into our program, and we make every effort to ensure placements are the best for both the adopter and the pet!

If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to our rescue group, please send a check to Second Chance Rescue, c/o 4403 St. Rt. 725, Suite F, Bellbrook, OH 45305. Your donations allow us to continue our mission of placing as many animals as possible into permanent, loving homes. You may also donate via PayPal, by using the following link:

Our Adoption Process -- What Can You Expect?

Second Chance Rescue is 100% committed to every animal in our care, and we pride ourselves on an adoption process that has allowed us to place our animals in the right homes from the beginning.

We have a pre-adoption application that must be completed prior to making arrangements to see an animal -- we want to know a little about our adopters, and what they are looking for in a pet, to help us in determining if the animal of interest might be a good fit. All information from this application stays with Second Chance -- we do not release any personal information anywhere else.

Then, we may contact you to arrange an initial meeting for you to come and meet the animal you are interested in. Please keep in mind that we often receive many, many applications for each animal, and so may not be able to meet with everyone, and it may take a little time before we can get back with you. Also, when we have multiple interested parties, someone is bound to be disappointed -- we realize this can be difficult, especially if you were sure the animal was meant for you, but we do our best, and hope you will understand the process.

If the initial meeting goes well, we will do a home visit both before and after the adoption -- which gives us an opportunity to see the animal in your environment, especially if you have children or other pets. We are unlike shelters, Humane Societies, etc. in that we do not have a central location for individuals to come and "visit" with our animals. We utilize a small foster network, where animals are in individual homes until a permanent placement. We must make arrangements to coordinate all visits, which can take time to arrange.

Please be patient with the process! If you are not interested in our adoption process, we encourage you to visit other organizations, that also have great pets available for adoption! We are not a "stop, shop, and pick" facility -- we want to get to know our prospective adopters, and ensure that our adoptions are right for EVERYONE!!

At Second Chance Rescue, we want prospective adopters to recognize that bringing a new pet into your home is a lifetime commitment. Pets are NOT disposable. Pets are not returnable as if they were an item purchased at Wal Mart. ALL pets need work -- training, exercise, and management, in addition to love and affection! No pet will be perfect the moment it first steps into your house, and, even the most well behaved pet can have issues pop up periodically that need to be addressed. The true test of a committed pet owner is what you do when the challenges arise. Will you step up to the occasion, or run for the hills, wanting to give your pet back? All animals have unique personalities, and unique backgounds, but all also have common needs, that an adopter MUST be willing to meet. In good times AND in bad times! IN GOOD TIMES AND IN BAD!!!! While, after adopting an animal from our rescue, we will always be there to support and assist you for the life of the animal, it is important that adopters recognize the level of responsibility they are assuming, and agreeing to, upon adopting a pet from us. PLEASE MAKE SURE, WHEN CONSIDERING ADOPTING A PET, THAT YOU ARE PREPARED TO TRULY GIVE THAT ANIMAL A SECOND CHANCE -- THE RESPONSIBILITY YOU SHARE FOR HOW AN ANIMAL DOES IN YOUR HOME STARTS BEFORE YOU EVEN BRING THE ANIMAL HOME, AND CONTINUES THROUGHOUT THEIR LIFETIME!

Please note: our animals do have an adoption fee, that can vary depending on the animal. The fee helps us cover our animal expenses, and allows us to continue placing even more animals into loving homes.

WE DO NOT HAVE A FACILITY, WHERE ANIMALS CAN BE SEEN. At this time, animals can be seen by appointment only, as ALL OF OUR ANIMALS ARE IN FOSTER HOMES. Please e-mail us if you are interested in one of our animals!
